The Canon. Here is why:

Sony is relatively new to the SLR market. The purchased (im not sure about this so don't quote me) Minolta, and have been refining the cameras since the aquisition.

Canon has been around for a long time. When it comes to SLR's, its Canon or Nikon - no exceptions.

I have had about 6 Canon SLR's (currently using the 5D). I have never been disappointed.

If your next question is Canon or Nikon? - well that comes down to a matter of personal preference.

IMO you should do a side by side comparison of the cameras.

Image Stabilization in the body? Sony
With Canon you have to buy it with the individual lens.

Will auto-focus with every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985? Sony.
With Canon only certain lenses will auto focus with the body you specified.

Can use nearly every Maxxum and/or Konica-Minolta D5 or D7 accessory made? Sony.
Not sure what accessories the Canon uses from previous models.

I am NOT knocking Canon, just pointing out some differences. IMO you should base your decision on your own opinion.
