People in R&P... can I get your opinion about something?
How do you feel about downloading (either legally or illegally) music vs. buying it in physical form?
Rather than downloading individual songs, I'd rather just buy and listen to the whole collection of songs on an album as the artist intended.
Which do you choose when you want to get music? Why?

Amazing answers!
Might I just add that I don't necessarily look down upon downloading. I don't buy CDs just to financially support my favorite artists, which I don't really worry about, but also just to be able to hold the additional art and info that comes along with it, as well as being able to have a physical collection of my favorite music.
However you choose to get music is the way that either you prefer to or the only way you can really get music. It's not about the money, but the art itself. =]

I don't download much myself (lets just say me and computers don't like each other) but I think it's what the music industry needs to save itself. Do the big CEOs honestly want us to go out and spend how much cds cost now? Pay $15 for the junk they play of the radio today? Heck no. Music is about freedom, self expression, not money. Most people also won't go out and buy an album from some obscure band that no one has ever heard of, and downloading is great for obscure music. It helps people discover bands and really is a good way for music to spread. Most people won't go out and buy music for the price it's going at now and the music that is offered. Artist get their money off gigs, and they get their audience through spreading their music, and downloading's a great way to spread music.
EDIT: Ops, forgot to say what I do. I buy cds. I'm dead broke, but I like having the physical cds, being able to hold it, being able to stare at coverart and flip through the booklet...... plus the quality's better and I'm one of those people who LOVE hearing every little fine detail of the song.
I will hate to see the inevitable disappearance of music shops, I think it's a terrible pity..I also very much enjoy having the actually CD as opposed to having it just on my computer..
If there's a band a haven't really heard of, I download some stuff on Limewire first, or alternatively listen to it on Amazon before deciding to get the Cd...Also, there are bands I don't like whatsoever, but I do like one or two songs, and in that instance I don't see the point of buying a Cd if you're not going to listen to it...
I choose Cds, the occasional free downloading..I don't mind so much downloading stuff like the Stones for example, they don't need the money so much as an upcoming act, which I would feel guilty about downloading and would buy the Cd instead...Even though I download sometimes, I would rather see it banished completely, legal and illegal...There's just something about it which I think strips the authenticity of music, or something...I just don't like the whole idea of it!
Good question! I prefer to buy CDs. I like being able to physically hold my purchases (and I still like my CD player!) Plus, having CDs mean that I have my music "backed up" if I ever lose all of the music on my computer. I also love the album format, especially in older albums. In my opinion, the band included all of these songs for a reason, and often can make more sense in the correct context. I'm not saying you can't enjoy say, Pinball Wizard, on its own, but it's better knowing all of Tommy in the right order. Sometimes I breakdown and buy vinyl, because it just sounds so different.
I prefer buying a cd. I like being able to hold something and read lyrics and all that good stuff in there. Plus you hear all the music instead of just the one you downloaded.
well, I'm broke. so instead of buying one cd for $20 I buy 30-50 blanks and make cd's for limewire.com I look up the cd's song list and get it through this. I like downloading the songs, but I would rather get the cds in the store because they are sure to not have those annoying "DJs" in the song promoting their sites and ruining the song. and virus free too. internet downloads are great but don't gurantee the download works or is the right song. (unless you pay for it through another site.)
