How does your religion help you to be self-disciplined?

I would be very interested in hearing any anecdotes or descriptions of how your religion or beliefs have helped you to be more disciplined, and/or if self-discipline is given importance in your religion.
Does your religion advocate using certain techniques, accountability with others, or anything else along those lines to assist you in being more self-disciplined?

Almost every thing about my religion helps me with self discipline. There's confession where I know I'll have to reveal my sins before God and man. There's fasting, where I'll be expected to conform to the guidelines the Church offers--or go to confession about it if I don't. There's prayer--for strength in the face of temptation. There's fellowship--for encouragement and support in overcoming weaknesses and temptations. There are services I need to attend so I have to be disciplined enough to show up, disciplined in my time management and ability to schedule. There's a kind of dress code==discipline to conform. There are little old ladies who'll call me down when I goof up. There are friends who'll call me down when I goof up. There is clergy who'll call me down when I goof up. There are little children who'll call me down when I goof up.....etc. Everything about my religion supports self-discipline.

I do not use God in a cuss word and will turn off a show that has it. I have called people down who use it around me. That is a cuss word that I do not like. As for other words they are debatable but mostly I don't like cussing. You will notice I said cussing instead of cursing, to me they are two different things.

At one time I was agnostic, I could turn the air blue with words then two things happened. One, my mother heard me cussing not just a few but a lot of my vocabulary, the look on her face chilled me to the bone. Two, at the same time I was doing that I was also into transcendental mediation and I met Satan which scared me.

I fall short of the glory of God but through Jesus I can see heaven.
What does Vi 11:5 mean? It is like reading the Bible, one verse means nothing without the verses around it.

It's not a religion so much as a spirituality. Basically, it's a matter of listening to my heart and doing my best to follow its dictates. I'm not always successful, I am human, after all. But the main thing is to follow the Golden Rule as much as possible, refrain from judgment (the hardest part for me) and just acknowledge that everything I see is part of God, including rocks, trees, animals, other people and even myself and treat everyone and everything accordingly. With respect and dignity.

Being Wiccan, I like to think that I have a duty to the Goddess, and so each day I become even more spiritual in the sense of awareness. I always feel aware of things to make the world more....more....free. I suppose that's the word I'm looking for. I usually try to stress to people the fact of free will and fight for democratic rights for everyone. I, personally, feel that the Goddess is the reason for my disciplin. )O(
