Frozen Dr. Pepper?

I got a Dr. Pepper out of the sales case at work and when I opened it it froze. It was liquid before that then it just froze as soon as I opened it! How did this happen?

While the drink is still capped, there is high pressure inside; this keeps the drink from freezing at a low temperature, just as the pressure on your car's radiator keeps the water in your car liquid at a HIGH temperature. As soon as you release the pressure by opening the bottle, the pressure drops, and the water in the drink can expand and freeze (water being one of the few things that EXPANDS as it freezes). Voila - frozen DP :-)

If it's cold enough, though, it will freeze and burst the can open; this only occurs when the temperature is JUST right.

I love frozen DP!

sounds like the thermostat was set too low or a malfunction, ether case the pop will be just fine to drink when it warms up a tad.

Maybe there was some sort of reaction between the air and the sudden release of chemicals. Idk
