How do you feel about Charlize Theron giving up her South African citizenship?
Last night Charlize revealed on the Late Show With David Letterman that she just became a U.S. citizen. According to her she "always wanted to be one".

Hi Porgie,
Did she specifically say that she is giving up her SA citizenship?
I'm not sure that that would have to be the case unless either one of her countries of citizenship tried to demand it (as the SA government illegally tries at times with some of it's dual passport citizens)?
I think it's more a case of dual citizenship.

Anyway, I would do the same in her shoes; favour the hand that feeds you.

Charlize Theron has lived in USA for so long she talks like an American and frankly she would never have had the same opportuny's in SA. Good for her, i am sure she is still a SA at hart. I cannot wait to get my British passport , not because i want to be a Brit but it gives you the freedom to travel to so many different countries. But i was born SAfrican and will always be one.:)

Well, she's been living there for a long time, so guess it would have happened sometime or another.
I think it was a practical decision, we have to consider that a US passport means she can get into many countries without the hassle of obtaining a visa first, with a South African passport you need visa's to get into most countries. As an actress that has to shoot on location often, I think it makes sense.

Firstly I would give her my heart-felt best wishes and secondly I say that it has nothing to do with any other person besides her.
I know I would do the same as I'm sure many people would too, and the numbers grow every day.
Congratulations Charlize, I wish you the best!

That is a bit disheartening, but I suppose for practicality, totally understandable.
Charlize has never made a secret of her heritage, or the fact that she is proud of South Africa though, so I can not judge her move negatively.
