Can anyone help me out? I need some music recommendations (Cont'd)...?
Im looking for bands that I would enjoy, especially related to these bands: Porcupine Tree, Sigur Rós, The Mars Volta, dredg. Something that can be loud or quiet, preferably a bit pretty (although TMV isnt really). I just a got music store gift card, and I want something new. Any help is great, I will take every serious answer into serious consideration.

I think you'd probably like some of these:
God is An Astronaut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqUW4IidID4 Mogwai http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tuGrEynG68 Godspeed You! Black Emperor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwz7lUaJDU0 This Will Destroy You http://www.myspace.com/thiswilldestroyyou
I love Sigur Rós!!! So few people know about them sadly! Anyway here are some of my favorites:
Aqualung Alexi Murdoch Ben Lee Nick Drake Peter Bjorn & John Iron & Wine Death Cab for Cutie The Postal Service Joseph Arthur Sufjan Stevens Paolo Nutini Voxtrot Brendan Benson Youth Group Rogue Wave Travis Wilco Guster Landon Pigg Cary Brothers Ben Folds Five Jeff Buckley
Jake Owen Adam Gregory Lee Brice Jamey Johnson Keith Anderson Eric Church Reba McEntire Jason Michael Carroll Miranda Lambert Heidi Newfield Cole Deggs and The Lonesome Whiskey Falls Eli youthful Band
For the Porcupine Tree direction, try O.S.I. - they're prog rock/metal with a touch of techno/trance. Try - Go, Hello Helicopter, Simple Life, and When Your'e Ready.
And related to O.S. I. - Chroma Key (Kevin Moore is in both) Prog rock and a bigger dose of techno/trance Try - You Go Now - Get back in the car, and Astronaut Down Dead Air for Radios - Colorblind, and On the page
so judging by what you have listed, Mogwai, definitely. they have this beautiful aural quality that reminds me of Sigur Ros and are very much a guitar-based band that i think are pushing the definition of rock music.
a band that is known for their soft/loud/soft dynamics are God Speed You Black Emperor! possibly might take some getting used to but really quite nice.
And You Will Know Us by the Trail of the Dead are very good unappreciated band. more loud than quiet.
Northern Chorus has very...pretty music.
Iron & Wine make gorgeous mournful music more guitar-folk-based, if that interests you. the later album is quite lushly beautiful.
you can test any of these bands out on the free internet station, Pandora.com, that you can program to your own liking. it has a fairly wide music selection and will try to play music according to what you enter onto your stations. so if you put in Sigur Ros, it will play bands that they think sounds similar.
happy music searching! and hope you get plenty of different varied recommendations.
