26y + 2x = 180 and 21y + 3x = 180, then what is x and y in both of them???

26y + 2x = 180
13y + x = 90
x = 90-13y
21y + 3(90-13y) = 180
21y + 270 - 39y = 180
-18y = -90
y = 5
back to the first equation
26(5) + 2x = 180
130 + 2x = 180
2x = 50
x = 25

First you multiply both sides of the first equation by 3 and both sides of the second equation by 2. This is to match up the x's so you can eliminate them.
78y + 6x = 540
42y + 6x = 360
Now subtract these equations.
36y = 180
y = 180/36 = 5
Now plug y into one of the equations to find x:
26(5) + 2x = 180
130 + 2x = 180
2x = 50
x = 25
x = 25
y = 5
