or what time does your child's school start at and end?
my principal is stirring up a huge pot of trouble and trying to get our school district to change the start time at the high school and hour earlier. we start at 8:30 and go to 3:15 and she want's to change it to 7:30 to 2:15. her thought on it is that it'll be better for kids who have away games and leave during school. but she's not keeping in mind that these students (i'm one of them) will be coming home on a bus between 10-12 at night and then we have to do homework and get up for school at 7:30. plus, lots of kids already have to get up at like 5:30 to get ready for the bus, so they'd be getting up at 4:30 to match that schedule. i've done research on teen sleep needs and it's a proven fact that teens focus better later on in the day with more sleep.
so do you go to school that starts way early? are you exhausted all the time? what time do you have to go to bed at in order to stay awake?

I am home schooled, and only work an hour or two a day but I wanted to comment anyway. I think it is ridiculous to change the time. 8:30-3:15 just seems like a better idea to me. My mom told me this story. Her principle changed the time to an hour earlier when she was in school, for the very same reason. It through the entire town off. Kids started messing around more and getting into trouble, hey, they had an extra hour. Plus, the day cares were often forced to change hours, working moms, the whole bit. I'm not saying its going to put your whole town in a frenzy, I'm saying it will affect more than just the school and its occupants.
Bedtime: Around 10:30-11:30 usually Wake up: 6-6:30 (I like to get to school early, lol).
Typically I don't every really feel that tired out school. Only if we are doing something boring, like watching an outdated, corny movie....then I fall asleep sometimes >.< But other than that I am usually fine. I recently started tennis, which is giving me a lot more energy.
High school too. School starts at 8:20, ends at 3:20. Each class is about an hour except for second period which is an hour and 10 minutes. Lunch is only 50 minutes. We don't get a break. :( Your school sounds better than mine.
The teenage hormonal, mental, and physical changes require us to have 3 more hours of sleep. I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but that means that schools need to move their time up so teens don't have to go against their body's needs and help them prepare for the school day. Sure, teens stay up later than they should, either getting homework done or messing around, but the hour change will help them in the overall.
Try to study up more on this topic and show it to your principal. Tell him how the hours are just fine and that if he wants to change the hours, he should have school start later rather than earlier.
I really wish schools would adjust for the ever-changing teenage body. Sadly, society doesn't even remember their childhoods...
