My GSD......?

Hi,
I have a nearly 8 month old German Shepherd Pup and this morning he started vomiting with some very watery diarreha and he's not eating. He's still having thoses problems now but not as much as it was this morning, he's much better now.

Im just woundering what may be the problem and what should give him to eat that will help the vomiting and the diarreha.

Please note that i havent taken him to the vets ONLY because im not concerned at this stage. Hes personality is still intact and is still bubbly.
If he is still bad by tomorrow i will be making an appointment A.S.A.P.

Thank you.

Has he eaten grass? Usually when their stomach is not well they will eat grass and that helps them vomit. This is a good thing to do: BOIL chicken and make white rice. Give that to him for the rest of the week. Do not give him his dog food with it. The boiled chicken is good because it gets rid of any fat, the rice is good to form a stool. He may not go to the bathroom for a day but that's normal. Also, you may want to take his temp....unfortunately in the butt. Normal temp is 100-103F i do believe. You may be able to take his temp in his ear, that should be about the same w/a digital ear thermometer. If you do it thru the hiney, and it's not digital, has to be in for 2 min to have an accurate reading. Hope he feels better!!!

Until the vomiting and diarreha stops you should not give him any food to let the stomach start healing itself. Give him a min of 3 hours for his stomach to settle (pref. 1 day) after that you can start giving him food in small amounts (rice is good for an upset stomach, plain chicken is also easy to digest)

if you really think he is on the road to recovery then he may have just had a little digetive upset and he will be fine. however please know that this could also be parvo as the first signs are vomiting and/or diarrhea. even if he has had hs shots he can still get parvo so please dont rule it out as an option. parvo is very serious and needs to be treated with a few days of hospitilization. hopefully he just got into something that he shouldnt have and will be fine but if the vomiting and diarrhea continue then i would bring him in. also to settle his stomach withhold food and water for 6 hours. after that he can have a tiny amount of water (just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl) if he holds that down then he can have a small amount of food. as long as he keeps everything you give him down you can keep increasing the amount of food until he is at his regular feeding amount. good luck and hope he feels better soon

Three very big signs of Parvo, and even if vaccinated doesn't mean they won't get it just that if they do they can better fight it off. Is the pup drinking? If parvo is caught right away they have a much higher chance of survival. Did he get into the garbage, any missing toys, different food?

Stop eating, drinking, vomiting and diarrhea all scream parvo and they don't have to have but one of the problems!

EDIT

Read your edit, sounds like maybe he's gotten ahold of something in the yard, silly dogs they just gotta try everything:) The chicken is good but I would with hold for 12 hours and try boil white chicken and a cup of cooked white rice. And as you stated if not better tomorrow he's got a doctor appt. Best of luck and hope ya have lots of paper towel and cleaner...

Your correct not to rush to the vets straight away, unless he as been like this for more than 24 hours , then i would say yes, it could be as simple as eating something he shouldnt, my GSD was like this a week ago, i treated her like i would myself or one of my children.. i starved her for 24 hours, i gave her access to water but no food.. on day 2 i gave her 1/2 her dinnner at b/fast time and the other 1/2 at dinner time so her tummy wouldnt be stuffed too much. Day 3 she was back in her normal routine and back to solid pooh and no throwing up.
