I'm purposely skipping senior prom due to extenuating circumstances. I know I'll come to regret this, but at current theres absolutely nothing I can do about it. Its been lingering on my mind though, because I've always placed alot of importance prom... and to skip it, however silly, seems like I'll be missing an integral part of my life. So please, assuage my anxiety and tell me, does prom really matter? Is it ok if I don't go...? Thanks

I know the whole prom thing is much more a big deal in USA than it is here in UK, but nonetheless, I'm going to make my point. My prom was the biggest waste of time, money and effort of my life. I spent money on ticket (35 pounds) and outfit, and it was so pathetic. The food was terrible out-of-a-tin rubbish, there was "live music" from one of our school bands, which was deafeningly loud that noone could go near the small room they were playing in. There was no dancing, no fun, NOTHING. Everyone ate then stood around a few hours then just went home because it was so terrible. This has soured me to any talk of prom, so in my opinion, you won't be missing much!
I did not go to either of my proms. It is just a long night out. It is an excuse to spend a lot of money with other kids spending a lot of money, and it is all something you can do any other time.
You do not need a special occasion to get dressed up and take your date to an expensive restaurant and show them a good time. In fact, it would be more appreciated when it is not what everyone else is doing at the time.
If you aren't going to do something stupid during or after the prom, then you can not do that anytime. If you are going to do something stupid during or after the prom, then you would regret that a whole lot more than missing the prom. It is just another high school dance. Period.
I didn't go to my prom. I always wondered what I missed. I don't think that it effected my life one way or the other though. If you can't go don't worry about it, worrying don't make things better. I hope things change and maybe you'll get to go. Have a great day!!
I'm not American, but it is one of those things you look back on for the rest of your life. Not intruding on your privacy, but is it because you think you're ugly or you don't have a date or family commitments? Becasue if it's peer pressure, you should still go.
