is it wrong to smoke and have a tooth taken out?

Well I have removed 3 teeth and it is so swollen that my one eye is closed and then I still smoke.Do you think that the swelling will stop if I stop the smoke because I am also on medication for the swelling.Help!

Well which teeth did you have removed? Smoking increases the risk of infection and it slows the speed of healing, it can also cause a dry socket, which is the blod clot coming away from the exposed bone. Extremely painful! My suggestion is to stop smoking for at least 5 days you will be in the clear for a dry socket after that so yes... stop!

i'd suggest not smoking while the swelling's still up.. but talking to a doc would be a good idea too.. =)

smoking increases chance of infection & increases the amount of time it takes to heal, specifically w/ teeth. maybe try "Nicoderm" for now.
