Would like to hear from anyone with information on what's going down with the author Cassie Edwards....?

I've read a few articles from the NYTimes that state she's been caught in a plagiarism scandal and that one of her publishers has dropped her. Her personal website has been taken down, and that's about all I've found. Anyone out there that has more of the scoop???

My mother and I have been avid readers of hers....we love the Indian Romance stuff.....and we are very disheartened that there may be no more stories from her......like we really care where she got her background info....lol If she'd have listed in the back of her book, her references.....none of this would be happining.

Signet broke ties with her a week and a half ago. The ladies at the Smartbitches blog discovered the plagiarizing by accident and then proceeded to "dissect" her books. The plagiarizing was prevalent in most of her work. You can find info here: http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/index.php/weblog/comments/signet-and-cassie-edwards-part-ways/

I frequent the blog. It's pretty tongue in cheek so be forewarned.

To LJ K: LOL well, I couldn't think of any other word to describe all the work they put into it. They even prepared a table with the specific passages that Edwards lifted. o.O

Wiki has the scoop, if you want to put her name in their search box. (my link for them won't go through, sorry)

I'll tell you what it says:

"In early 2008, romance-novel blog 'Smart Bitches, Trashy Novels' accused Edwards of widespread plagiarism after finding multiple passages in her novels that appeared to be directly taken from various works by other(s)... including novels, poems, reference books and websites about Native American history and culture."

One publisher, Signet, first defended her but 2 days later said they'd "reviewed" her work and in April Signet stopped publishing her work, saying it was due to "irreconcilable editorial differences."

"Edwards says she did not know she was supposed to credit sources."
Strange.
(Googled... EDIT: I'm back. There is nothing really new. It reads now like gossip).

Still, people do get very strange about what they use/take from Indians, to this day. She may have a bit of N/A blood, but I guess she never went to live on a reservation or anything if she had to do all this "sourcing."
Strange.

EDIT: ***Correct re: credit should have been given. Too bad. Sorry you may miss more books... have you really read all 100? You ARE fans. (I'll be back only if I find new info...)***

ADD: to 'laheira2' if you come back... meant to send a silly message, but. Is there a prob? Anyway, just appreciated your use of the word "dissect" after this a.m.
Found it amusing.
