Is it normal to have vivid dreams where you are someone other than yourself and wake up remembering everything
Wow, that's a long title, but it pretty much summarizes it. So I don't confuse you, let me explain. I like writing stories. I'm pretty good at it too. Lately, I've been getting more and more of these wierd dreams that are soo detailed. When I wake up, I can remember it word for word. The other thing about my dreams is that I'm someone other than myself. One of my most recent ones happened about a week ago and I was a princess(I guess you could call it that)and lots of stuff happened. I don't want to get into it right now. Another thing is that dreams are really, really long and ALWAYS end. I never seem to wake up in the middle. I figure they happen early in the morning(aroung 1 or 2). Now, don't get me wrong. I still have the usual strange dreams everyone else has, but these dreams are different. It's almost as if I really were transported to another dimension or something. Does everyone have these, or am I just a freak? Also, can anyone explain why I have these dreams too? Thanks!

Also, am I just overeacting? When I was younger I had really wierd dreams, so I guess now that I have somewhat normal dreams it confuses me.

Many years ago I decided I would never be a good fiction writer because I just thought my imagination could NEVER be that good, or my stories flow so freely as those I admired. After reading the fantasy stories of George MacDonald, I noticed what a dreamlike quality his stories had. I realized the source of the absolute best fiction and fantasy... the unconscious mind. I think the truth is, probably nobody can think up stories as good as those we admire (especially fantasy and fairy tale genre). Later, I read that some people do tap their dreams for story material.
Sometimes, now, my dreams do suggest a great story line and interesting characters. Once, I had a dream that seems totally designed for a book or movie. Right now, I have posted a dream on my Yahoo 360 that has within it quite an interesting story line about a King and Queen who had more children than the law of their land allowed. It is mixed in with other stuff, but the story line is there, along with a Princess as the main character.
Start writing those dreams down. With a little editing, you may soon have quite a story collection!
When I've read your content, I must admit, I was a bit jealous in a good sense if I can say so,because you are a blessed person, rarely I met, What you described it happened to a few great writers in the history They wrote best books using almost words after words and scenes after scenes that they saw in their dreams. Be happy and act immediately in the same sense Someone other than yourself???????????? It is one more evidence about a character you should describe in your story. Your dreams are long and always end? Of course,my friend, your subconscious mind gives you the most desired gift via your dream, whole stories, without working so hard. I want to see as soon as possible your name on the bestseller books Brightest blessing to you and I cross my fingers for you.
I agree heartily with the other two respondents- seems there is a common creative bond to be found, and let me guess what it is. Think back to ancient times, when poets, minstrels and playwrights assigned great importance to "communing with the Muse". Look it up, if necessary, tho straight up I'd say you have a prolific channel eager to share a huge store of creativity. You 'become' other people in your vivd dramas? That caps it. Total immersion in your dreams as a participant is a primary ingredient in Lucid Dreaming, usually seen as self-directed, but you, dear lady, are gifted with a natural, unbidden boon! Dump the notion that these are weird or unfitting for you, and get busy encouraging further efforts, and hone your writing skills to match the quality of your future literary ambitions. (you have that very talent sought by publishing houses and literary agents- truly original stuff is so rare, these days)
When I saw your title I thought "Why she is a writer, too." I was pleasantly surprised to read you post and understand your description very well. I hope you make an effort to write down all of them that you can. Some other writers I know have discussed this & some but not all think these dreams are coming from ancestors somehow. One guy I know has these dreams in Gaelic which he does not know when he is awake. Bob Dylan has even described this phenomenon in an interview. WRITE ON!
