Please help me to understand the relationship between BUN and Uric Acid in lab test results...?

I am attempting to understand my wife's prognosis using the Seattle Heart Failure Model, but it calls for Uric Acid and her lab results consistently report BUN. Both have units of mg/dL. Are they effectively the same thing?

Thanks to you both for your help. The "carbon based" site was very useful.

your primary care physician will want to know this because of gout developing. there are drugs that help keep the uric acid level down i believe allopurinol is one. there are foods that can aggravate the gout, such as mushrooms. in the summer time drink plenty of water and not get dehydrated.often an indicator of gout is the big toe, which will ache like a tooth ache.i am not a physician, but have been given prescription for cloche cine, when i had flair up with gout.

High uric acid readings can result from a number of problems ranging from gout to cardiovascular disease to diabetes. You should consult your doctor to determine whether these readings indicate anything serious.

Uric acid and BUN are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PARAMETERS.

BUN measure blood urea nitrogen and is used to determine kidney health.

Uric acid is high in patients with gout, or people with kidney stones, or patients with diets rich in an amino acid called purine.
