She's anorexic, suicidal, adicted to cigarettes...and can't afford a psychiatrist. Advice?

A good friend of mine is experiencing many things that I once experienced. However, I was able to get as much help as I needed. I've been encouraging her to go to a psychiatrist, because they can prescribe pills and help her figure out the source of her problems, but she says she can't afford it. I don't know what else to do. I can't just let her die, which will happen either by her eating disorder or suicide, but I have no idea what to do. Someone please help me out.

Most states have mental health departments that are free or low cost. Find the one in your area and give the phone # to her.

I can relate to that. I have a certain illness and even though I cannot afford a psychiatrist I go anyways its so worth it. Sometimes clinics or hospitals have community assistance programs thats something I would look into for your friend.

Good Luck.

get her to go see a councilor, and that should help, and tell her it is free, so its no problem with the cash and if that doesn't help ask the councilor for more advice
