Verizon Mobile IM Question?

When I go to Mobile IM to sign into Yahoo messenger on my phone (Voyager), under the sign-in/password areas, there is an box that you can click that "enables IM forwarding"  What is that exactly?  If I am signed into messenger on a computer, does it send the messages to my phone ALSO if I am IMing someone?  

What I don't get is why would I need "forwarding" if I am signed in on my computer or if I am signed in on my phone!?!?

Please be specific...I am technologically retarded when it comes to this :-)

I just tested it on my phone.  Here is what I did...

I signed on yahoo messenger with it checked and a friend IMed me with my phone closed.  The IM came in as it normally does. Nothing special happened.   Then  I signed off Yahoo with it checked.  Friend IMed me, still nothing.  

So, I have no clue what that option is for.  I know what IM Forwarding is though. That is when the IMS come in your text inbox.
