How do you say to the SO that they should be evaluated for bipolar? I mean... if you are a true bipolar SO... certainly you got called names that aren't even in the book... when is the best opportunity? obviously not during the shout down... is the best opportunity the next day when they are desperate for you to accept the apology or some other time when they are more level... i need to know because i need to do this...

This is a very difficult situation. I have a brother that is bipolar and it took a lot of convincing to get him to go to therapy, but he is getting better every day now. I would definitely talk to them when they are more rational and if things get back, walk away and leave for a little bit..nothing ever gets through when things are irrational, no one is thinking straight with or without biopolar disorder. By maybe telling your SO that you will go to therapy with them will maybe help them to go to get help
