What do you think about the FLDS police sting? Should the children be returned to their parents?
One could argue that the phone call was enough, even though a simple check by the police would have determined where the call came from.... I don't think the kids should be put back in that situation, but at the same time, these police in a lot of ways trampled all over the FLDS civil rights. The 'good faith' argument could be used here, but they didn't even try track down the person who said it. This latest judge is an idiot. There have already been 3 (that I have read about, so possibly more) births by underage girls. The father's are the old coots on the compound. All of those children and their mothers were getting food stamps and welfare claiming there was no man in their household. Of course our taxpayer's money was not being spent on the kids, but to build their church and other plush buildings for the men.
I get sick when I hear the women, who pimp out their kids to these old men, speak. They all talk in the same whiny voice they have been taught to use.
They have even found a lot of little boys who had been raped while in the compound. I hope they never send any of them back. Not only that, we need to raid every cult in the USA and protect all the children.
First, the whole basis for the search was to locate one specific girl who stated that she was forced into marriage to a much older man at an age that it is illegal to marry in Texas. Second, the state did not validate the allegation before they strode into the ranch and removed not just that girl (whom they have not located), but they removed all the children under the age of eighteen. Therefore, on what basis were the remainder of the children removed? Did they verify that each and every child removed was being abused? One warrant for one child cannot validate the removal of all the children. Also, does polygamy justify abuse? If so, why didn't the state arrest the men at the compound for their polygamist lifestyles since THAT is against Texas laws and statutes? Therefore, the children should not have been removed at all, and they need to be returned to their families immediately. Just because we, as society, deem a religion, way of life, or lifestyle as morally wrong by our standards, does not justify the confiscation of our children, property, or rights. Would people feel the same way if this had been a group of homosexuals who had their children taken away? I hope not.
In addition, if they are going to remove children from their parents on the basis of teenage pregnancy, then the state should remove every teenage girl (aged 14-17) that gets pregnant from her home... How many teens get pregnant at 12, 13, or 16 who are not a part of a religious sect??? Also, her siblings should be removed since this same thing might happen to them.
Most, if not all, of the children were not in any physical danger when they were removed from their homes. Further, if the state wants them removed on the grounds of what "might" happen... then every drug user, criminal felon, child abuser (mental or physical), etc. should have their children removed because they "might" endanger their child in the future. In fact, no one should be allowed to raise their child because who knows what "might" happen!!! We, as a nation, cannot allow the government to act on whims, notions, or "what ifs." We are a nation of laws, and we, including government officials, must follow those laws. We cannot make them up as we go.
Therefore, I believe that the proof of abuse has not been proven, the state rushed to judgment, and officials did not verify the information they received. So... I hope that the children will be returned to their parents.
As court ruled - no physical danger proof, no lawful take into state custody. Children by law should be returned to parents and homes they were taken from. Absent a danger to the children the state has no legal reason to hold them- amount to unlawful restraint and violation of civil rights. Individual men and their possible particular victims are covered under laws regarding accused and protected witness- the whole group is not, absent some proof of criminal activity.**arejokerswild seems to be uninformed- if he knows of evidence of abuse or fraud then he should disclose it. Latest reports indicate no welfare fraud- the opposite seems to be the case, self sufficient settlement that pays taxes, doesn't claim religious tax free status, and takes care of children internally- saves state money compared to secular crack whores with multiple father families. **.
I think the courts should uphold the law. If there is child abuse going on who cares how it was called in or found out. They are not above the laws of this country, why are we allowing this to continue????
