Will rear seat belts reduce accident(death) rates in Malaysia?

There are about 5-6K traffic accidents annually and far too many people are driving too fast, 120-140kph. Seat belts for everyone---cars, minibuses, etc---will definitely reduce serious injuries and save lives. Grandparents and parents should begin to show good example and educate the young.
A change of mindset, less bravado among some young male drivers and more safety awareness among all are essential to bring down the death statistics, which are climbing every 2 years....Show more

Too soon to tell.
Not all cars have rear seatbelts. And some only have 2 rear seatbelts and none in the middle.

There are 5 in my family plus my parents and maid = 8 people. That means I'll have to buy a 8-seater MPV in order for everyone to buckle up. Or someone will have to stay home......Show more

All the time but Malaysians being 'tidak apa' attitude have contributed to a number of sizeable death. Rear belt restrains passengers from being flunged out of the rear window from high impact when accident happens. It happened in US whereby the driver hit the rail and turned turtle. Driver and front passenger were alright but the rear passengers (children) were tossed out and died on impact because not wearing belt. See, all these problems start with our school education with 'tidak apa' system not forgetting the half baked parents. Start educating children on safety from young....Show more

It depends a lot on situations, like
1. If a lorry rammed into your car, definitely a NO
2. if you're driving too fast, and you rammed onto other car, definitely a NO

Wearing seatbelts, in my opinion would save life / minimise injury in minor accidents. I'm talking about being sandwiched when you or the car that hit your car's boot travel at 60km. but anything faster than 100km, the chances are, even seatbelts or airbags wont help....Show more
