Why does my 1995 Mitsubishi Galant check engine light come on?

Ever since I got another transmission in my car, my check engine light comes on, the car jerks and sometimes it shuts off.

I had a new transmission put in my car about a month ago and my check engine light started to come on. When it comes on it jerks(sometimes) and it acts like it wants to shut off. I had some problems like this before with my old transmission. Is it the filter? What can I do or what do you think is the problem?

Seems to me that your problem started after they installed the new transmission, have you called them and spoke to them about this?? maybe check your transmission fluid level in the meantime....
I have a 2002 Galant and I know if i do not tighten the gas cap (really good) it will cause my service engine light to come on...
You can also get a computer diagnosis to find out why its on, but I think you need to contact whoever did the work and have them check into it..good luck

Probably a lose cable or there may be a small leak somewhere in the transmission lines. Maybe they damaged something while working on your car. Most car shops offer a free check engine light scan.

Well the light does say "check engine" right? I would guess the car is a little more intelligent than you so I would suggest checking the engine.

It is a 1995, so unless you own the Mitsubishi Mut 1 scanner, you have NO CHANCE to actually troubleshoot the MIL. The 95 Galant may be PARTIAL OBDII. You need to KNOW and not just GUESS.

It is the car's transmission turning "on". its when the transmission starts and it may work or not. considering that your car is old, it may be best to purchase a new car, like a mini cooper! =)
