I have no animations so under Custom Animations the Multimedia Settings are all grayed out and cannot set the number of slides for the same song. As of now, when the slide changes to the next one the song starts over again. I'm running windows XP.

Well, provided that you have an XP or something like that, here it is (and luckily, I might add, with no downloads...)
1. INSERT your song
2. Go to the SLIDE SHOW tab at the screen's top
3. Select CUSTOM ANIMATION
4. On your right, you will see, the name of the sound clip with a down arrow on the right
5. Select EFFECT OPTIONS
6. A screen will come up, here you may set the song to play through a certain amount of slides or until it ends or whatever
