What is the best way to cook a steak?

I'm really looking for a way to take my steak to the next level and achieve results on par with any gourmet top level restuarant like a Mortons. I've achieved good and often tasty results but I still feel its missing something. My cut of choice is either a rib eye or a bone-in rib eye as I prefer the marbeling on it over other cuts. Is it mostly in the seasoning, a marinade, or the way you cook it and in all cases what are the best used to achieve that "I've died and gone to heaven" effect?

Use a pan that is oven safe.......like cast iron or stainless steel. Brown the steak over moderately high heat on top of the stove, and then place in hot oven for 5-10 minutes or so, depending how well done you like it.

An animal that has been grass feed has the best tasting meat. If you can get this, to marinate it is a sin as the meat has it's own unique taste and should not be tampered with seasonings (except ground rock salt and fresh pepper.

Get a good loin cut and grill it over mesquite. Grilling with gas is blasphemy. I usually season with Tony Chachere's Cajun seasoning, but I put that stuff on everything.

Makes that fancy restaurant junk taste like dog food.

its all a matter of taste. some people like their steak cooked all the way through, well done, but others think its gross and like blue. to be safe, try medium, although i prefer medium rare. you may also want to consider the steak rub and marinade.

that depends on who you're cooking it for. I prefer my steak rubbed in garlic and grilled slightly below medium. My husband prefers his near well with mushrooms.

My personal fave is a NY strip and his is a filet. it's all matter of taste and preference.
