How difficult is it to install a shift kit on a 700R4, while it is still in the vehicle? Can it be done? I was reading instructions for one kit that recommended doing it out of the vehicle.

Yes, it's a little easier to do with the tranny taken out, but it can be done while it's still in the vehicle.
***TIP***
Use vaseline to hold any of them stubborn little balls in place if they want to roll around on you when you remove the plate. It won't hurt the tranny. I've done it before.

ive seen it done before while it was still in the car. what they did was drop the valve body and put the shift kit in.
