Reported bites or unreported bites? Reported bites I would guess that the winner is Pit Bulls or Pit Crosses ( and before you all go off on me, I blame the irresponsible owners for having unsocialized, poorly trained or vicious dogs, not the breed in general) But from my personal experience, Cocker and Springer Spaniels come in first, closely followed by Chihuahuas then Poodles...those breeds bite quite frequently, but the bites tend to go unreported becuase they are less serious than a bite by a larger, stronger dog like a Pit or a Rott. The actual factual answer to your question would depend on where you live ( what country/city/state) and what perimeters you are asking about...nationally, worldwide, statewide etc.

Herding dogs have an instinct to bite at heals, but those are almost never severe. Terriers and small dogs tend to do the same to get attention.
When it comes to severe/ unexpected bites Pit bulls are at the top:
The following are also have been known to give severe bites
Rottweiler
Akita
Eskimo
Wolf Hybrids

To correct the fears of some Siberian Huskies are not vicious. They do look somewhat wolf-like but that means very little. What scares most people and causes vicious dog reports is that they howl. This howl is not the always the normal whine people think of. Sometimes it sounds sorta like a growl.

I doubt it'd be the ones you think - rotties, pit-bulls or alsations. Its more likely to be the smaller dogs, jacks, poodles and the worst biters - dalmations!!! That shocked you didn't it? Mind you, not all bites get reported because they're family dogs most of the time but you asked a very good question here - very emotive, well done. Take care.

Cockers spaniels I'm told - but most dog bites are not reported, especially minor bites from small dogs.

The ones you read about are usually from the big, powerful dogs because they do more damage when they bite - doesn't mean those breeds bite more.
