If Jesus rescinded the laws of the Old Testament...?
Wouldn't he have explicitly mentioned that somewhere in the Bible?
17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
I agree with you; the logic of people who believe that the law is "done away with" is skewed.
Because -- if that's the case then there is no sin. You can't have sin without law. You can't have knowledge of sin without God's law.
People think it's grace alone; others think it's works alone. But the Bible -- the New Testament, for those that ONLY rely on the NT -- speaks of BOTH grace AND works. To have one or the other ONLY negates the other portion of the text.
And if they believe that the Bible, in its entirety, is the infallible Word of The Living God, then they should ALL learn to take it ALL together.
The Messiah said "If you love me, follow my commandments."
What commandments? Which ones? ALL of them. Yes it SEEMS impossible and most of the time you're going to be breaking one or the other or thirty of them but the point is to TRY. You TRY to be the best, repent for what you missed out on/did not know/knew but do not adhere to.
Pork eating is a sin just as witchcraft and homosexuality is a sin.
So is NOT observing the Sabbath...
People have alot to learn. Everyone wants to pick and choose pick and choose. They want to follow the 10 commandments but bash homosexuals. Homosexuality is NOT in the 10 commandments. Neither are the laws against sleeping with your father's wife or your sister, either. So, what about those?
According to the masses, those should be done away with, too, eh?
Your verse 18 shows that it stops when it is fulfilled and in verse 17 you state that it was fulfilled by Jesus. Jesus did not rescind the law he clarified it. Man created all those shellfish and stoning people rules. Jesus cleared that up and clarified the law was not suppose to be so anal. It is the intent of the law that counts. Jesus mentions all the commandments in just 2 commandments Love thy God and love thy neighbor. All commandments are hung on these 2 Jesus said. So we still have the 10 commandments but they have been clarified by Jesus not rescinded.
He in no way rescinded the laws of the Old Testament. Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment. Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
I'm thinking a lot of this stuff was lost in translation. If you really want to know, or really care enough you would probably have to go learn Latin and the various other languages the Bible was translated to English from and make a decision for yourself.
