I have no power on pick-up and after reaching 15 mph it runs smooth again. Having problem in morning with cold start. Feels like i'm running on 4 cyl. only. I have changed fuel filter/ spark plug/ air filter/. spark plug wire and still shakes on idle.
any suggestions? Sometimes, pick-up is so bad, from no power, I get hooks from people behind. Could it be fuel pump? or timing gear issue.

It's a 5 speed and what gear you taking off in, as 1 is a granny and 2 will get you rolling but will surge like that with a good clutch
But usually fuel pump you'd have no power at all and a check with a fuel pressure gauge is only way to be certain (30psi running/ 40 psi on goose) anything lower than 25 psi or so is notacable but 15 will cause what you describe.
Haven't seen the chain go yet on one of those, but you could have jumped a notch but would have to have it in front of me to offer real diagnosis

It has a fantastically respectable sized engine, my 1999 Ford Explorer receives round 15 MPG at streetlevel and that i have the 4.6L V6. also, i do not imagine Ford change into in contact about gasoline mileage contained in the late ninety's and early 00's.

well my 95 ranger isn't that bad but i have similar problems till i take it to clean the fuel injectors i would also say it could be the filter or the pump. mine is a 4 cylnd so i would say check the whole fuel delivery system and the distributor cap and coil pack i think that is what it is called/

I would check the engine temperature sensor.
