Self-Injurers/self-harmers: how did you start injuring yourself?

How did you find out that injuring yourself made you feel better? What gave you the idea to try it? Or did you do it accidentally the first time? I'm inquiring into the *inception* of your self-injuring habits, for the sake of my Yahoo Group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Injurers_of_the_Body/

I was in a severe depressive episode (I'm bipolar) and I started plucking hairs from my legs/arms. I accidently scratched myself one times with the tweasers and for some reason, scratched myself again just to see what would happen. Soon I was using scissors, and finally a razor blade. I would make 200-300 cuts at one time. I then moved to overdosing to "numb" myself and to just get rid of my feelings altogether.

I felt worthless and sad and I wanted to punish myself for being shy....It started with the razor blade, but when I realized that people would eventually see my scars, I switched to scratching and hitting myself...I'm a quiet person and I would always cry when my parents yelled (it scared me) so instead of yelling when I am angry, I hit myself...It doesn't happen to often...I am extremely patient

Well I had heard about it and I decided to try it and it was a very bad decision too.
