My female (16month) red doberman is losing patches of fur. We switched foods to a different flavor within the same line and about two weeks following she broke out with a rash on her belly and chest. That cleared up within a day and then she started losing fur on her chest. This was not regular shedding but patches of fur. I attributed the problem to the change in food and immediately changed back. Her hair seemed to be coming back in and now (just these past few days) the rash, which looks like bumps or bites (she doesn't have fleas, ticks or mange) started coming up on her neck , under her jaw and near her ears. As of today the fur looks patchy in this area too. So we have a vet appt. for Tuesday but has anyone had a problem similar to this before. *Oh she is on Eagle Pack hollistic selects, she has been washed (per vet) with a medicated shampoo for the itching, although she really hasn't been scratching...I am just trying to be a bit more informed as I have tried researching and

Were the eye boogers green? My dobe has seasonal allergies which can lead to sinus infections/green eye boogies...few days of generic anti-histamine from the vet (which tends to knock him out for a good 4 hour nap) seems to work well for him. If your dober girl has the green goobers and a skin rash, it makes me think a few things:
1. Perhaps she has seasonal allergies and/or an allergy to grass. Has she been spending time lying around on the lawn or passing through tall grasses/weeds? Sounds like something she has physically come in contact with as it sounds like it has mainly been confined to her underparts.
2. Perhaps she has seasonal allergies and a food allergy which could be related to the grain in the food (or the alfalfa & kelp if she does have a grass allergy). Try switching her to a grain-free kibble.
3. Maybe it's not the food...could it be her shampoo?...her flea control?...carpet freshener?....chiggers?....washed her bed in a new detergent?....
Hope things clear up soon for your girl. Best of luck!

It defiantly sounds like an allergy of some type. It is possible she has been suffering a mild allergy to something for a while and an allergy to something in the food pushed it over the top. Your vet may need to do allergy testing to determine what she is allergic to.
Red's aren't prone to alopecia in Dobermans it is generally linked to diluted colors (blue and fawn) and is not associated with the rash you are describing.
