I've been trying to see what makes song beatiful; looking at songs like "If I fell in love with you" Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGJqj4WfXhg and "All I ask of you" Andrew lloyd weber http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h43VhgiYQgI&NR=1 It seems to involve a long and short notes mix, well placed rests for effect, and long notes sustained at endings. What do you think? What makes a song beautiful? Any ideas?

I would say the music, or the vocals. Lyrics don't impress me very often.

Sometimes it is the words and other times it is the music and other times it is a combination of both. The haunting sounds of the music in the TItanic theme made it a beautiful song more than the words but combined it was a winning song. The Beatles sonf was more the music than the lyrics.
The lyrics of the song make the song beautiful. Its like a story with a tune. The tune also helps to make a song beautiful whether its slow, fast or just right.
