What kind of Hamster should I get?

Well... I've decided to get another Hamster. I had a Syrian before, but it died a while back. However, my Syrian was super mean... no matter how many times I tried to pick it up it bit me. So, I'm wondering what kind of hamster is the most friendly. Also, depending on the breed should I get more than one.

If I got more than one, would either of these cages be large enough? (I have both).

If neither of those cages will work, please suggest one that might. Under $60, please.

i have the second one. my hamster loves it. the first one seems interesting too. i love the little balcony at the top! those cages are perfectly fine, the hamster will have a blast in there. but if you have more than 3 in there is might be a bit crowded for them so i would just keep one or two in those cages.

any hamster can be mean, if it is not handled a lot as a baby. they are not used to humans, and the more you handle it is more friendly it will be. i take mine out at least 1 hour each day and play with them.

dwarf hamsters are sweet, but very quick and sneaky, if it gets loose there is not much chance you will find it. but they are very sweet and cuddly. (they only live 1-2 years but sometimes 3)

Syrian hamsters (teddy bear hamsters or black bear hamsters) are my favorite. they are so sweet, and love to run, mine goes in the wheel more than it sleeps, they are nocturnal, but during the day my doe nothing but eat and RUN! she's so funny. they are fun and energetic. they are so nice and so cuddly. (they live about 2-4 years, but i had one that lived 6 years)

golden hamsters are also great. i have only had one golden because they are very rare. they are so tame though. i had mine and it would sit in my lap for hours while i watched a movie. they are so sweet too.

thank you for shopping at petsmart!! i work there!

Both of those cages are way too small for any animal, even if you put the two together. No wonder your last hamster was mean, it had not room in it's cage to live! Hamsters may be small, but they need plenty of room to run and climb. A cage like one of these would work:

As for the different hamster species, if you are looking for "easy to tame", go with a Syrian (also known a "Black bear or Teddy bear, these names are false). Syrians can be biters but are larger and slower moving than the dwarf species. These hamsters need an owner that is willing to tame them. Remember, SYRIANS ARE SOLITARY. Campbell's russian dwarf hamsters are very wiggly and need an owner who can keep up with them. Campbell's are prone to biting. Winter white dwarf hamsters change colour every winter from agouti (brown) to pure white. They have basically the same temperment as the campbell's. Chinese hamsters range from "sweet" to "agressive" depending on where it was purchased. They are very mouse-like in body shape. Last but not least, the Roborovski hamster. These are speedy, high energy rodents that must live in pairs or they will become depressed. They will not bite, but are very wiggly.

Good luck choosing a hamster!

there are 2 different varieties of hamsters, Syrian, and Dwarf, all those call which incorporate Black endure, are basically fancy names for their variety. you'll be able to need what variety to get. What ever one is advantageous, and takes your coronary heart. do no longer hear while human beings say, oh dwarfs are all advise and chew, by using fact thats faux, and that i've got had dwarf hamsters and that they are loving and friendly. don't get me incorrect, so are Syrian hamsters, that's this variety of hamster I even have maximum appropriate now. It relies upon incredibly, do you like a huge hamster? do you like a small hamster? What colour? What gender? you may ask your self those questions, then pass to the situation you have become your hamster, and seek for the suitable hamster. that's what I did and now I actually have a sparkling maximum suitable chum, a black endure Syrian hamster, named Clowie.
