In short, yes they are fish. They grow to about a foot in length and live is large schools in rivers in South America. They mostly eat other fish though occasionally they devour mammals and birds that splash about on the water surface. They are excited by the smell of blood and go into a feeding frenzy once there is blood in the water, whether it was caused by them or not in the first place.

Yes piranha are fish, a member of the characin family, same as tetras.

They are NOT small fish, the well known red belly gets 12" long!

dude piranhas eat anything and everything they will even bite your hand off!!!!! So instead get an African or South American cichlids they are semi aggressive(depending on the fish) and won't bite your hand off during feeding frenzy.

Pirrahna is a mean fish, they're kinda small I think. I think they are in Africa and they have crazy huge teeth and they bite and they are not nice...
