Isn't Russia being smarter than us right now?

Russia is buying up all the energy resources and securing their power in the world. They are appealing enough for citizens of a democracy (Georgia) to want to join them. Almost 100 percent of South Ossetia were Russian citizens by choice and had voted to separate themselves from Georgia. That didn't end up working out too well for those people...

But back to the original question, isn't Russia being smarter by becoming the energy power while we sit with our hands tied behind our backs for environmentalists and polar bears?

If you buy into the phoney, politically correct man-made global warming stuff, we are being sensitive to the future generations.
But, the Russians don't believe in the good tooth faire, Mother Hubbard, or global warming, and they are taking advantage of the situation caused by the leftists in this country.
The Russians are smart enough to realize that our civilization, and our prosperity are based on access to plentiful and affordable energy!
Tell that to the Polar bears!

To answer the original question, no. We're smarter to also develop alternative fuel sources that will be a source of new jobs and clean industry while continuing to develop the already extensive domestic drilling that involves more than sufficient areas of public lands & waters. Our hands aren't "tied behind our backs" at all, we're learning to consider more than just short term profit for industry. Have you seen the outdoor shots of smog filled Beijing? Environmental factors effect more than just polar bears. Geesh.

Russia is coming out of hibernation, and yes, they are getting smart on getting control of energy and becoming stronger on the global market.

I would not say they are smarter than we because we is more educated and smarter too, you see here in America we never waited in line to buy toilet paper right? Proves my point exactly!

I agree with what you said. Russia will be the energy power very soon and Brazil will be the manufacturing power in this hemisphere (They already manufacture more than the US and are energy independent)
