Is anyone else willing to circumvent the Heath Ledge band wagon with me?

Okay, so i finally saw the movie...and it was good. it was more than good, mainly cause i saw it in IMAX and am surprised my face didn't melt off. it is probably one of those movies that will not only define a generation (21st cent star wars!) but become known for its remarkability. that being said, i can't jump on the ledger bandwagon. i kinda refused to prior to watching them movie, mainly because people were freakish about this movie, but my sensibilities as an actor where called to question.....I LOVE HEATH!!! i've always respected his talent and his choices. as an actor, he's made bold choices in his scripts and the path he choose to tell the story and the voice with which he told it. so when the hype over the movie started coming, i made myself take it in stride. but when folks started whispering about oscar...i grimaced...why? does he really deserve it? was the performance that compelling. was it anymore compelling than any other movie he's done? and if that's an affirmative, is it good enough to stand up to other nominations? is it a slap to his career that he gets the most success and critical aclaim for his portrayal of this character? or is it scarey that he's still acclaimed yet he died from an overdose? all these questions, pulling me different directions, popped up and i've kinda been a wreck. mainly because you can't say a negetive thing about the movie or heath at this point...you'll get lambasted, which may, regretably, play a part in the position of my opinion today. SO...now that i've seen it, i must say, that while heath did a fabulous job, solid choices, made a character that will live on in people's nightmares, he just did not live up to the hype. AND PLEASE DON'T HATE ME, this is after all an opinion and it's not that i'm debating his talents...they are far and wide. but there are actors out there who have done just a good of job, if not better, AND managed to survive, and YET STILL have not garnered the acclaim he has...and it sorta bothers me. not too much...i won't let it. i liked the guy too much. i remember his stand out performance in, god forbid i ever admit this publically, but "10 things i hate about you". he was good. he stood out to me as realistic and i've watched his career come of age, quietly and almost seductively...like the man himself. he was sooooo hot in a knight's tale and i drugged myself against the cheesey factor just to watch it all the way thru. i think i just want to hear people talk out their infatuation with this actor and see where it stems and why. i feel like the batman fever is effecting...which is still pretty groovey but to what extent should we allow ourselves to get caught up....i'm interested in people's opinions...dont' be too mean...

Well, it really is a matter of opinion. Unlike so many other famous actors, I could forget who Heath Ledger was when I watched his films. He could totally disappear into the character. I think he deserves the acclaim he is getting as The Joker. I understand that people have hyped his role since he died so young, but that doesn't negate from the fact that he played it fantastically. Just study his movements, his facial tics, his voice. He really mastered the part. The nervous, sick way he tongued the scars on the inside of his cheeks, the unbalanced, high-pitched voice, the way he held his head, his posture. He really did a good job. I don't think anyone can claim he didn't and if they do, it's because they're dim or just plain hateful. People like to use the internet to pick on people because in real life, nobody cares to hear what they have to say. The internet is a great medium for stupid, mean people to voice their irrelevance. Just look at the way people have been picking on Maggie Gyllenhaal. It's utterly disgusting. Similarly, there are people who pick on Ledger on the internet. Not saying you're one of them or anything. But no, I disagree. I think he did a masterful job!

Get a life. Whether he gets an Oscar or not certainly will not matter to him or the majority of regular people in this world. It will matter to those obsessed with fame and popularity. So sad.
