Have you thought of a cut out saddle pad? A cutout saddle pad is a pad that is cutout at the top where the horses withers would be. These are helpful in relieving the pressure a pad may have when resting on the withers.
I'll get an image for you...hang on.. http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/thesaddleshop_2013_66835032
I prefer the cut out style rather than the high rise type. I don't get any rubs with the cut out.
I have a TWH with high withers and use a similar square pad with my king ranch endurance saddle. I tried the round one first but it slipped too much. Just make sure you can get at least two fingers between the cantle and the withers and before you cinch down I suggest you pinch up the blanket so when you sit it doesn't pinch. Happy Trails!
I like the build up cut back pads. It leaves a nice opening over the withers and has extra padding on the sides of them to build up the back so the saddle sits very nice and level. They work really well I use them on my OTTBs when using a western saddle on them.
I like that saddle pad. They also look to be well made, unlike a lot of pads out there. Here is a built up pad in case your saddle rests on your horses withers; http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/thesaddleshop/pbh7905-21.jpg http://www.valleyvet.com/ZoomImage.aspx?img=group_images/29750_A.jpg http://www.saddleandtackwarehouse.com/product-details.asp?item_id=808# http://www.bufordsaddle.com/blankets/reinsman_saddle_pads.htm Hope this helps.
