That's a tough question. There are several famous revolutionaries in history and most of them aren't even American.

Vladimir Lenin was an active participant in the Russian Revolution. His government aided in assassinating the last Tsar and his family in 1918.

Maximillien Robspierre was active in the French Revolution. He was one of the handful of guys who orchestrated the Reign of Terror by having political "enemies" beheaded with the guillotine (interestingly enough, Robspierre was also introduced to Madame Guillotine when he died).

Copernicus.

He insisted the earth revolved around a fixed sun. The Pope thought this was heresy. It was obvious, after all that the sun was moving across the sky while the earth stayed still. The Pope forced Copernicus to state that he was wrong in his views. He made a public confession but time proved him right.

The sun revolves around the earth just as this medieval revolutionary said so.
