New Yorkers, were can I find amazing food?
I'll be visiting New York soon and want to have the best of it.

For food, i would avoid chain type places or theme restauraunts. places like Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood are just excuses to overcharge for mediocre food.
Pizza is a New York icon and i think the best available, at least in Midtown, is at Tottono's on 2d ave and 26 st. A hot dog at a papaya place , scattered around, is a good quick (cheap!) lunch, and better than the corner cart. There is a concentration of good restaurants on ninth ave between 42d and 57 st. This is only about two blocks over from Times Square, but the quality improves and the prices decline.
Another place that I can suggest is a Spanish restaurant called Spain on 13 st, just west of sixth ave. If you go there, you only need order an entree as several appetizers are included. Paella is outstanding. Save room for flan.
Indian food can be found on Lexington Ave in the 20's. Great Italian food can be found in Little Italy. That's Mulberry Street, North of Canal and the area around it. I like Luna's.
Chinatown is on the other side of Canal.
Let me know if you want to try some great Thai food, but it will take a short subway ride to queens.
Me!!!
I'm not a New Yorker, but I've just returned from NY and it was ace!
Make sure to do all the touristy things, go to the Statue of Liberty. You can go on the island and Ellis island as well (that's were all the immigrants were processed) well worth a look. Go see the empire state building or rockafella centre for a good look of the city. I would also recommend going to see Ground Zero, it's a very moving and strange place to see.
There's a really good exhibition called "The Bodies" that is well worth seeing, it's very interesting, although if your are squeamish then think twice before going. Madame Tussauds is worth a look and so is Ripley's believe it or not ( a interesting museum with some really weird things) .If you can try and get in a Broadway show as they are brilliant! I went to see Chicago and Hairspray (not my choice but turned out to be fantastic, a real laugh and had everyone dancing).
For food there's a brilliant restaurant in Grand central station i think it's Michael Jordan's restaurant and well worth going to.
Also there's a 50s style dinar called Jonny Rockets (cant remember where it is, but ask someone at your hotel and they might be able to help) that's also very good.
Oh yea and try Hard rock cafe, i think it was on times square its good.
Hope that helps, enjoy your trip.

Check out the slew of little places in the Village, especially West Village, from 6th Avenue eastward -- there's a particular concentration form West 4th Street down. Just walk and let your eyes and nose guide you. I particularly recommend Gobo (if you're vegan, and even if you're not) and the Olive Tree Cafe.

Go to Times Square and Forest Hills. In Times Square, there are things like Hard Rock Cafe and Cold Stone Creamery. In Forest Hills, there are things like TGI Friday's, Pizzeria Uno, Narita, and Boston Market. There is also lots of Chinese Food in Chinatown and Flushing. Times Square and Chinatown are in Manhattan. Chinatown is by SoHo. Flushing and Forest Hills are in Queens. To get to Times Square and Chinatown, take the E, N, or W trains. To get to Forest Hills, take the E,R,V, or F trains. The G hardly goes there anymore. To get to Flushing, take the 7 train.
