I died my hair sort of an auburn color, but up by my roots, it's kind of purple...?

I actually like the color on most of my hair, because it was previously dyed and the color didn't take as much as it did on my roots, but I do not enjoy having purple-ish roots and am wondering the best way to remedy that? Is there anything I can do besides lighten and then re-dye my hair? I want to avoid too much processing, but I think if I try to dye over it, it will turn who knows what color next? Any ideas?

Well, the color that your roots turned is the color that your hair should be. Since you have previous color on your midshaft and ends...and color can't lift out color, you achieved a different result. I'd say the only way you can remedy the problem is to put a demi or semipermanent color on your hair over the brighter area similar to what you have on your midshaft and ends to dull the color. A semi or demi color will not damage your hair as much as permanent haircolor and will shampoo down within 6-20 shampoos, depending on the product you go with. You might also call the 800 number on the box and have them give you a solution. Or get corrective color done at your salon.

I did the same thing and I didnt do anything to adjust it. Grey hair is harder to dye due to the fact its more coarse and dosent absorb the color as well as the other hair. If you dont like then dye it again but you risk damaging your hair. Why not just wash it and wear it like it is for now and then when you go to dye it again then find a color that you like better. Auburn color has some purple dye in it to achieve that color, so it wont be different if you do it again the same color.

I would try washing just your roots (and not the rest of your hair) a few times, and hopefully that will fade the dye a little bit. Next time you dye your hair, do the roots last. The heat from your scalp makes the dye work faster, so that's why it's a different color.

Your loving husband will adore you even with purple hair.

Maybe if you're extra sweet to him, he will get you to a professional stylist.
