RAM Issues with an older Dell Server?

I recently installed a 512 Megabyte PC133 SDRAM chip into my old Dell server, a Poweredge 1400SC. This is the type of RAM that Crucial.com said the computer originally took, and it's the same type of RAM that's in it now. However, when I put the new chip in, alongside the old one, and powered up the computer, I got nothing but a steady beeping from the motherboard, which meant it failed the POST test. I tried starting up the computer with the new RAM only, and with the old RAM and the new RAM in different slot positions, but nothing worked until I put the old RAM only back in, and the computer booted up fine.

I would appreciate any help with why this new RAM chip, which even has the same sticker rating as the old one, won't work in the computer. Both chips are 168-Pin 512 Megabyte PC133 SDRAM. The old chip has an "M" for the manufacturer, while the new one is from the company called Generic.

I just installed more memory and this same thing happened. So i reinstalled it.Somehow i did not have it seated correctly.Remember when installing ram after you shut down Make sure you press the on/off button and hold it in for about 20 seconds. That grounds your motherboard. Also make sure you touch something metal like the base.So you keep yourself grounded.Static electricity is the worst enemy to a motherboard.

First answer is probably, take back to the seller and have them check the memory. If running XP should depending on C: Drive should have about 768M in your machine.
