I rip to mp3 at 256kbps which gives excellent performance but also takes more space. Ripping at lower rates uses far less disk space but also gives less quality.

Switch is a great little program that allows you to make many changes to music files, bitrate, encoding, and a lot more.

When installing also select Wavepad Audio Editor, Golden Records if you convert vinyl, and when you run the Switch program click on the Toolbox on the top right and install that too.....gives you many more options....it's all free although there is a minor nag window for a few seconds and redirect to the home page when exiting which can be blocked through your firewall.
