Go ahead and keep waiting for your Messiah, there is no place for any kind of religious bias in American government, and that includes vague scriptural misinterpretations trying to pass off the state of Israel as being the Jewish people the scriptures were talking about.
Obama will not give unconditional support to Israel, he should and probably will end the practice of tolerating Israel's insistence on having the upper hand before negotiating with its neighbors, and he will make Israel accept that peace does not mean a situation where the Palestinians meekly submit to being dominated and persecuted. That is the "peace" Israel seeks and it is time for the US to wake its little buddy up to the fact that it's not gonna happen like that.
Israel must be held accountable for its actions. If you have a problem with that it is obviously on religious grounds, and it's for the good of all sane people that your vote failed. The only obstacle to peace has been an unaccountable Israel, the only obstacle to an unaccountable Israel has been unconditional US support, and the only obstacle to that unconditional US support returning to rational diplomacy has been the inability of the people to overcome corporate control of their government. Until now.
As for Jesus, he's dead, but if he were alive now I doubt he'd give a rip about supporting Israel either. You can pull plenty more quotes out of that self-contradictory book, about how Jesus wants to tear Israel down, or how he's for all people Gentile or Jew, etc etc. He was certainly no friend of the state he was born into.
I think political and economical reasons will be the ones that Mr. Obama will analyze, not religious, but anyways, I think he said he would support Israel.
