start with the basics, sit, stay, down, walking on a lead.
To teach a puppy to sit use a treat and hold it just above his nose while saying the sit command. move the treat up and over his head until he sits. You may have to put a little pressure on his bottom until he gets the idea. Give him the treat as soon as he sits.
To teach a puppy down, use a treat and bring it to floor level, again give the treat as soon as he lays down.
Stay is a little harder and depends upon your puppies attention span. While he is on a lead tell him to stay and take one or 2 steps away. Reward with the treat after you call him to you. Gradually move farther away give the treat as soon as you call him to you and he comes. This also practices recall. Which is very important if you ever allow your dog off his lead in public.
Teaching a puppy to walk on a lead should be pretty natural as they will have a tendency to folow you anyway. The important thing to remember is that your puppy should always stay on your side (usually the left) and just slightly behind you. If he begins pulling or trying to walk you, reverse direction until he is in step with you and then continue. Another important thing is how your puppy greets visitors. He should not be allowed to jump or bark like crazy. Ideally he should wait at a respectful distance inside the door, until he is called over
good luck and remember puppy training is patience and practice
once your puppy has mastered the basics you can start to work on other things such as rolling over, fetch, frisbee, agility, paw, etc

Always be positive is the main thing. Never stress your puppy by shouting or scolding.
Do not punish - ignore the bad, praise the good.

Start by getting your puppy to sit.
Use a treat or toy and raise it in front of your puppy. As his head lifts up his bottom will go down. Say the word 'sit' and make a big fuss of him.

When you puppy has mastered 'sit' start to teach him to lie down, using the same method.
Shaking hands is a very easy one and normally takes a couple of goes.

Good Luck

Oh my gosh there are bookstores that carry books on puppy training like Barnes and Noble and Borders and i'm sure there are other places as well. You can also sign up for training classes at Petsmart and i'm sure Petco does it too. Sorry i don't know how much they cost but i do have the sight

Great book will answer all your questions about puppies, care and training - "Puppies for Dummies", it's one of the "dummies" series, silly title, great read.

Your library probably has it, or Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble online.

Congratulations - good luck with the little pup.
