1986 ford ranger pickup?
I have this 86 ford ranger 2 wheel drive pickup with 12,000 original miles on it. It's almost like new condition. Is it possible to convert this truck to a 4x4?

Don't do it. First of all it would take a ton of work and money. Also don't take a truck in that kind of shape and start screwing it up. It is pretty close to being one of a kind. Keep it clean and maintained and leave it alone. Another thing why put parts from an old worn out truck on a truck with 12000 miles on it. Again don't do it.

Go to any major Auto Supply Store and look at the Chilton Manual or other brands of books. They have the wiring diagrams in them. You can buy a condensed version just for the Ford Ranger Pickup, for around $12.00. You might get it at the local Library, copy it for free and you won't have to buy the book. Not all libraries carry those books. Good Luck.

The best way would be to have a 4 wheel drive donor truck. You have to change the front axle and springs, transmission tailshaft & housing (possibly the entire transmission), driveshafts, possibly rear axle gears, rear springs, possibly the front crossmember, steering linkage and gear box, and some wiring for the transfer case controls.

That would not be pocket book friendly. You could probably find a pickup that year already equipped with 4 wd cheaper than the change over would cost.

well yeah it is possible my papaw had to do that with his ranger but it does cost alot however if you put 4x4 drive in it it will be a tank lol it will literally go through any terrain my uncle has one that year and everything he hawls in junk to a junk yard and loads it till hte bumper almosts drags the ground and hes done it for years never no trouble
