My plumber wants to charge me $185 to run 2 lines from the output of my water heater. (This is not a minimum charge, it's added onto water heater install price) This seems excessive? Isn't it just a matter of inserting a "Y" connector?
(One line goes to sink, one line goes to washing machine. Old water heater was set up same way)

He is ripping you off...A hot watrer heater install is exactly what it says...to remove the old and replace...he has to simply tie into the lines like the other heater was..I had my hot water heater replaced not long ago for a total of 200.00...this was a COMPLETE install..A bid on installing a hot water heater is exactly that..installing it so it works..if he gave an install price..that should be final..I would simply find another plumber...
Why can't he connect the new heater to the old lines that are already there? Sounds like a swindle. Like, if there is already a price for INSTALLING the new heater, should this not include actually CONNECTING it?
Some more of this "you need to have a qualified, licensed, (insert plumber or electrician, here ___________). That way you will know it is done right". The man is ripping you off.
