Recommended NON-TOURIST eateries and activities?
I am looking for some off-the-tourist path restaurants and activities for 12/26-12/31. Also, can someone give me a description of which dark beers I should try?

Boiled Crabs, Crawfish, Oysters
they have only have 3 sit down tables but the food is Great.
the shrimp poboys are excellent

Some other good poboy shops are Parkway Tavern, Parasol's, and Domilise's. For a nicer dinner away from downtown and the French Quarter, try Cafe Degas near the Museum of Art and some of the cemeteries.
Dark beer? Get an Abita Turbodog or an Abita Christmas Ale (usually dark, but changes from year to year).

Eateries - try the corner poorboy shops and neighborhood restaurants for the best local food. I like Mother's on Poydras St, Mandina's on Canal St. & Liuzza's in Mid City. I also like R&O's for seafood in Bucktown. Red fish grill - there are a couple of them - the one on Pink St. in Metairie is good.
None of these are expensive places.
Clubs - try Rock -n- Bowl on Carrolton Ave or The River Shack on River Road or Maple Leaf Bar on Oak St. These are local favorites.
Try some of the Abita Beers - brewed on the north shore.

Sandy- there is only one Red fish Grill and its in the french quarter. The Restaurant on Pink Street in metairie is called sun ray grill and its not that great and its not the best food in new orleans. It is one star restaurant compared to others.

Johnny's Po Boys on St Louis Street in the Quarter (near Decatur) for breakfast and lunch. They used to close about 4, so don't plan on supper.
Their fried shrimp po-boy, dressed (lettuce, tomato, mayo), is to die for. They serve a good breakfast at a reasonable price, too.
Great big fat hamburgers, hand made, at the Port of Call on Esplanade Avenue on the edge of the French Quarter, and Yo Momma's Bar and Grill, 727 St Peter Street in the Quarter.
