Why are people on this site obsessed with Psychokinesis?
Telekinesis, Psychokinesis, Micro PK... It seems everybody wants to make things fly around the room without touching them. Why? Couldn't you just as easily pick something up and throw it with your hand?
There are so many other types of Psi phenomenon that it makes me wonder why so many people ask questions related to TK or PK. So, if you've asked this type of question or have some insight, I'd be interested in hearing your reasons.
BTW, please try to focus on this question rather than telling me about whether you believe PK is real or not. That's not the question.
Thanks!

I think it would be possible to correlate questions posted here to TV listings. The current spate of telekinesis/psychokinesis questions probably relate to some US TV show that aired in the last 48 hours.
Last week it was EVP recordings. There is a prevalent theme every week that I assume is dictated by TV schedules.
Fair enough, everyone is entitled to ask questions. Curiosity is one of our better traits. Critical thinking is another good trait and this section has one or two excellent exponents.
Interesting question. In truth I have no idea but I suspect there are many different answers depending on several different factors. I also think one factor is what people think telekinesis is for example if they see it as throwing fireballs like some type of super power or effecting dice rolls at useless (for any practical purpose) levels. I think as people know more of what the actual test results show (accept them or not) people become less interested.
I do think most of the other answers make good points as well.
In truth it is the least interesting aspect of psi phenomena to me. Even if we accepted all the claimed demonstrations as real they are on small objects that it would be far easier to just reach and pick up the object. The tedious experiments required to test this ability has got to be the single most boring research to date.
It might advance some understanding of physics and one day prove valuable (the same is true with all scientific research) or it may go nowhere until discoveries are made in other areas within or outside of physics. I think the brain research where one can possibly move an artificial limb will one day be useful but that's not exactly the same.
I like the answers so far but of any extra ability this would be the most useful, wouldn't it? Not only could you affect the environment around you but you could affect your own person (ie: fly). From a psychological perspective, this ability gives a person the ability to fix a problem without much effort, once again leading to the immediate gratification mentality. After TK and PK I would venture that most everyone would like to be able to predict the lottery numbers, I know I would.
honestly, I think, we as people, have such little control in our lives that we seek other ways of control, even if they may be a little far- fetched. Plus, in my case, i don't know about what anybody else thinks, but I am so underestimated by the people that think they know me because they judge me by innocent appearance that they don't understand that I can be powerful if I wanted to, if I actually wanted to hurt someone I could, i just choose not to. PK seems like a cool way to gain control, understanding, and/or respect to many people. plus, movies have made telekinesis very popular.
Is it the flying around the room they are interested or the actual gift that comes with the types of Psi phenomenon. I know people who do have that gift are quite the opposite, quite, reserved, because people take it out of context and misuse it, hence the fascination. Some people are self obsorbed in themselves why they want to know, a gift of any sort should always be utilised in its right context, you play around with it, it will play with you.
