The Joy of Cooking by Rombauer, Becker and Becker. The first addition was published 75 years ago.. I have the 2006. 1975 and the original edition. It has ALL the basics you can imagine from different levels of boiled eggs to making a standing rib roast to everything in-between from traditional to contemporary. It's a great cookbook that I refer to often usually for basics but it offers much more. I recommend it to all no matter what your cooking level is! I love ethnic cuisines and this book has a the basics but I don't use it for that. I refer to it all the time for basic but time tested cooking techniques.

Out of the nest, into the Frying Pan by Eileen Lafferty.
I got this from my mom in the 80s and it made me realize how easy it is to make great meals without stress, cooking should always be a joy..
