For everyone asking who cares,my sister cares, she doesn't want my niece to go to school w/a bunch of kids who are going to be mean to her.My niece had this little boy who liked her,he lived w/his dad next to my mom and we were all at my moms one day in the summer, the boy was over playing w/kaylah when his mom come to pick him up for the weekend, when she saw the boy w/kaylah she told her son to get in the car now and to stay away from that f****** ******.My niece is only 10yrs. old this was the first time she ever heard that word, when she came in to tell us what happened she was very up set,she didn't understand. We explained to her that some people are just mean.We told the boys dad and we never saw the mom again. My sister doesn't want that to happen again. Some people are just stupid and there is nothing we can do about it,but we can avoid the stupid people. To me color doesn't matter, but to some it does and it is the children that get hurt the most, because they don't understand.

My daughter is mixed with American and Putero Rican/Dominican, so she has very dark skin and curly hair. We live in Oakbrook Terrace Il and there are no other kids at her school who look like her. She loves it. She says she is unique, while all of the other kids look like they could be related she stands out. She is in 3rd grade and her motto is this "Normal is overrated" have your niece adopt the same attitude and she will be fine, it won't matter if there are 1 million kids who look like her or not.

DON'T LET HER BE A SHEEP!!!

*Edit*

I saw what you added on and sadly there are always going to be ignorant people in the world. Some one once called my daughter a "House Ni%^er" after the term was explained to me that person lost their two front teeth, but the point is this, if you shelter that girl her whole life she will not be ready for what is ahead of her.

I remember when my daughter started kindergarden she came home crying because she had to draw a picture of herself and there were no colors that looked like her in the color bin. I told her she was caramel and that she had to look for a light brown. A few days later she came home with a huge smile and a caramel crayon which she found and she told the teacher she wanted to keep it because none of the other kids could use it because they had white skin. LOL

Ask the school counselors/principal. But my question is...who cares? All three of my kids are black/white mix and the two younger ones are the ONLY ones in the entire school who are.
