Looking at Getting a Lab/Box Mix Puppy ?

I am thinking about getting a Lab/Boxer mix or some type of Lab mix when I finally get a place with a yard.

1. Has anyone had experience with these breeds?
2. Also, when I get a crate for a puppy such as a lab, should I buy the crate for the full sized dog or one for the puppy size?
3. Should I get a male or a female?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am a true believe that mutts make the best dogs. I am glad to hear someone is looking for a mutt. Both temperaments of each dog are unique and are shared. Both are loyal to their handlers and owner. Both make excellent dogs around children. Some of the health problems each of them share. BUT they also make a very cute dog. My 13 & 6 year old nieces has 3 boxers/rott mixes and those dogs are some of the best dogs. Never have shown a ounce of aggression. So don't listen to others when they say you can predict a dogs temperament when you breed them. You can't. It's about how you train a dog, what the dogs learns. It will learn aggression if you are aggressive. Ya know?

I prefer males, but the reason why is because my puppy I had when I was a little girl was a boy, and he protected me & ultimately saved my life, and for some reason I've always been drawn to males.

For the crate, I would get the full size crate and add bedding in it so it feels more confined and secure, and it will grow with your dog.

I have had lab/boxer mixes before and have had no problems. When it comes to getting a crate definitely opt for a full sized one that has the divider panel in it so the crate can grow with your pup. As far as male or female there can be a few differences to consider, males usually tend to be larger and or heavier than females, they tend to go through the "hump-itis stage" that can be a challenge or at least embarrassing to deal with around other people but certainly not un do able. females on the other hand if not spayed go through their "breeding cycle" which can be busy for cleaning up after or keeping other dogs away from her. temperaments vary dog to dog not necessarily just between male or female but more individual personalities. The biggest thing to remember with these dogs is the amount of exercise they require to keep them happy and out of trouble. As Labs are working/field dogs they love to be given a job and kept actively busy-it makes them feel important. If they don't get the stimulation they need it can make a mess of your house, yard, etc while they take out their frustrations. This applies really to any dog not just this mix. So if you have the time and the place a dog like this can be a wonderful companion! good luck

1. Labrador x Boxer is NOT a purebred dog, so there temperment is poor including aggression, behavioural problems and genetic faults, however you can avoid the aggression in this mix if you adopt from a shelter/pound, only responsible way of adding a mixed bred dog to your life

2. There are some crate that can be brought large and use a divder to make them smaller.Ideally you need a crate that just is room for the puppy to move around, lie down etc, you don't want to have to go out and repurchase a crate.

3. Up to you.Males tend to mark in the house. However intact females will leek blood around. However neither are a problem when there neutered/spayed.

Hi,

If you're thinking about getting a dog, it's a very rewarding thing. Although owning a dog brings so much joy into our lives, it is also a big responsibility. A lot of things to consider, check out this site to help you decide:

hehe should be a very fun playful dog i would guess
sex doesn't matter it just depends which you want or you'd prefer
get it a full sized one so it has more room to play, will already be use to it instead of having to make the adjustment into the larger one later on, and you wont have to worry about swapping them either
