For those who are in reunion, did you reunite with extended family as well as your first parent/s?
and how did it go? Did you do it right away, or down the line? Was it once side or both? For those that did, any advice for someone who is just beginning to reunite with their extended family?

I meant aunts, uncles, cousins :) I just got an email back from one aunt that is pretty much setting the reunion ball in motion for my dad's side of the family!

Hey girl. Do you mean siblings, or aunts, uncles & cousins?
***ETA**** I got a "thumbs down" for asking a question. I love you, too, teehee.
That is awesome you have an aunt who is doing this! YAY!
My only advice would be to take it slow, get to know each other and try and keep your relationship with them separate from your n mom and dad's at the beginning.
It so awesome to see how much we are like our first families- even aunts, uncles & cousins! have fun, girl!
I re-united with my father recently. I decided to give myself time. To go into this whole thing very slowly. I have already had some of them being nasty towards me. One person I don't know if he was a relative or friend of the family who actually asked me if I was my father's child. I laughed at the time, but later realised it was rude of him. For your sake I hope they are nice decent people both ways. I have been raised by decent people with class. Reserve people.
His wife died a while back and he was left with his 2 daughters and 2 sons. The daughters also have a bad vibe and it seem like they want to form a buffer between me and him. My attitude from the start was to be there for him, love and support him.
Well, sadly no. on my bio mothers side, no. i was adopted by my bio fathers sister(my aunt) so i know that side of the family.
Sad thing is, my bio mother is 1 of 6 siblings, so i have aunts and uncles, and possibly cousins, i'll never meet. my grandparents on that side are long gone and probably dead. but..i could be walking past my aunts, uncles and cousins on the street.
I met my daughter first. Then she met my sons, mother and brother. Myself and my sons keep in touch. Last year we found her father, he has lots of family. she met one sister and grandmother that day. Still all keep in touch. I met her parents and sister through adoption last week. that took 9 years, but again all went well.
suggestions, take what ever you can get. Each will have their own level of involvement. some will stick around and some will fall away.
