In PC Magazine they had the TV's sorted by 1080i and 1080p. What is the difference?
Is there a difference? I am looking at buying a Insignia 47" LCD tv and I want to also know if if is a good tv for the price. It is from Best Buy if that makes a difference.

1080 is the number of lines the TV has. The higher the number the better the quality. 1080i and 1080p stand for "interlaced" and "progressive" respectively, the better TV is the one that is progressive.
Interlaced means that each one of those 1080 lines are 'painted' on the TV every other time. So imagine for one second you can see the lines 1,3,5,7,9....1079, and the next second you can see lines 2,4,6,8,10....1080 (actually is much less than one second, for the human eye all the lines are ON all the time).
And progressive means that all lines 1,2,3,4,5,6.....1080 are painted at the same time, so this is better.
Regarding the Insignia LCD I have no idea..... Good Luck
this article has some technical explanation of the difference and similarities, in terms of quality that I have viewed both look great to me, although it also depends on what you are viewing on the TV (HD movies, video games, cable).
As for pricing I got my 37" Toshiba LCD TV from there for about $700 and after shopping around that price seemed reasonable. You may find TV's cheaper online if you search around but then you have to look into shipping costs. My dad has a 42" in his living room (plasma) and it's a nice size for the room and allows everyone to view it comfortably from around the room.
Go only for worldwide brand, paid more for quality and reliable,as there always care for quality, from design to productions all don by own factory, back up with a R & D teams, market only own brand worldwide. OEM brand, only sold in one country , design/production all by other , beyond control for quality , there go for prices , always much lower prices compare to world brand. ( mose of OEM brand LCD tv is by small size factory in China now , ). ** Sony / Samsung / Panasonic / Sharp is very good, prices on high side. but Toshiba / LG also make very good quality tv worldwide **
